Turkey/Syria Earthquake Relief
February 15, 2023
My St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
We heard in the news last week about the natural disaster that took place in Turkey and Syria. The lives of thousands were taken and the homes of many were destroyed. As a community of faith, we pray for the people of Turkey and Syria, trusting that God will protect, preserve, provide, and comfort them at this time. We may even wonder how or what the Holy Spirit is leading us to do to provide support and reflect the image of Christ during such a time of need.
One of our leaders at St. Matthew’s approached me with an idea and she has taken it upon herself to find an organization that we can partner with to support Turkey and Syria financially.
We will be accepting monetary donations by check or cash from Sunday, February 19th through Sunday, February 26th. Please make checks payable to St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church and mark the memo line “Turkey/Syria Earthquake”. St. Matthew’s will be writing a check for the total amount received to UNICEF noted “ From the Congregation of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church.
We ask you to find it in your heart and within your financial means to donate as you are able as we collectively raise money on behalf of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church to help the people of Turkey and Syria recover from the earthquake.
God has blessed us in many ways and has called us to love one another as He loves us. We pray that you will donate as you are able as we give support to these countries in desperate need of assistance at this time.
Yours in Christ,
Rev. Jonathan J. Recabarren, Pastor
